Old Bladeless Windmill
Belmont Road Area
Bridgetown, Barbados
Series: Barbados: To the Capital
(07-23-2007)

I am on my way to the capital, Bridgetown, but photo opportunities are proving hard to come by. The rain is slightly sporadic and the window to the car is closed. There will be a few stops on the way. Maybe, I can with some maneuvering, manage to capture a few things.

Well it looks like I am going to get a chance to shoot a windmill in a now populated area that I am sure was once plantation land.

Sometime in the history of this great land I am sure this windmill was of some use either in crushing sugarcane or pumping water. But these notable pieces come with a history of enslavement. This was when sugar was king, and slavery was the order of the day.

Whoa! Impressive! I like the mossy covering. Pity it has lost its blades.

    BTW, Happy New Year!

  2. Yup, blades are gone. Windmills are all over Barbados, some in decay and others have been converter.
