If you have ever seen some of the wonderful and fantastic well kept old colonial buildings in Old Virginia then you know where I am headed with this one. Why not here on Baxter’s Road in lovely Barbados?
Well part of the problem is that some of these buildings are not owed by the government. They are, still to some extent, in the hands of the wealthy. They seem not to be interested in restoring these wonderful structures. With out racking the brain, it can be said they are more than likely waiting for some deep pocket developer to come along with some mega project. And you know the project will have no regard for history or its preservation.
Well, enjoy the image. We can never be sure when some of these old places will be under the wrecking ball.

Love the new header.
ReplyDeleteIt's so sad, and a shame about these buildings that are left to go to waste. It reminds me of downtown Kingston here, and the restoration plans, which seem to be on the backburner at the moment. I can only imagine these structures in their heyday. Sigh.

ReplyDeleteThey are many of these buildings in Bridgetown. I am keeping my fingers crossed that someday most of them will be restored.
Come to Nassau. We have the same problem. Don't have any pictures at the moment, though.

ReplyDeleteThe site you enclosed is very good. It is way to start relating information on what is going in the neighborhood. What were they thinking cutting down trees 40 years plus? Some folks have no heart.
Ok so I missed the new header completely! lol :-) Thanks to JD for pointing it out. It is an absolutely gorgeous shot Keith! Bridgetown looks so beautiful now. I'm thoroughly envious! I wish Mobay could look as quaint as that!
ReplyDeleteAs for the old buildings, yup. We have our fair share here in Montego Bay as well. I'm so proud of the town of Falmouth. They seem to be serious about restoring as many old buildings as they can. Montego Bay on the other hand, seems only to care about expanding and building these huge monstrosities called shopping plazas sans any character at all. As in Barbados, most of teh old houses are still owned by private people/companies who really aren't interested in restoring them. Sad.
This is shot from the past. I am sure in its heyday the beauty was appealing. Thanks for dropping by my friend.
ReplyDeleteAlot of the buildings are owned by Goverment. Sam Lords castle is owned by some rich black men from Clico and they have let it fall to ruin.
