  1. quaint indeed.

Do they still construct these houses ? Or are all the ones that exist quite old?

  2. Ann, there are many Chattel Houses constructed each year. It is still the cheapest way to build a home on a piece of land. The ones built now are constructed with green or purple heart wood. This type of wood takes a long time to decay and is quite resistant to insects.

Even though Chattel Houses are still built, the elaborate carpentry of the old time homes may be missing in terms of architecture.

The government also provides low income Chattel Housed through National Housing Corporation.

  3. Your photographs are just beautiful--stunningly beautiful. My dream is to one day buy a Chattel House in Barbados and go there, and never, ever come back. I would buy one of these photographs and frame it -- stick it in front of my nose to keep my dream alive--but at the moment that is not possible. So, if you don't mind, I will just keep on coming back here, to keep my dream alive. Thank you, so very much, for these photographs
