Looking Out To Carlisle Bay
Bridgetown
St. Michael, Barbados
Series: A Sunday Walk Along Baxter’s Road to Bridgetown
(08-13-2006)

What a beautiful vista looking out onto Carlisle Bay. I can imagine this place with loads of ships and other vessels with goods and slaves bound for other places. Imagine the hurricanes that ravage through this Bay on more that one occasion, killing many. Those days are long gone. It is peaceful now.

Look straight across from where I am and you will see the new Hilton Hotel perched on Needham’s Point. White sandy beaches and clear waters can summons any visitor to this Bay. You can be captivated, even overwhelmed.

But not many can say they had an uncle who worked at the Old Hilton on that same site. He was a chef there for some 25 years or so. Now, like him, like the history of the Bay, all forgotten. Until some poor soul like me unearth relics stories of the past, giving some form, some meat, some substance for you to dwell upon.

Carlisle Bay is beautiful. Keep in mind she is like a child. She needs to be loved.
